On April 18, Ethereum co-founder Виталик Бутерин urged users to refrain from visiting any links after the popular ENS gateway was attacked at the DNS registrar level.
A few minutes later, the limo team confirmed the breach: the service domain was hijacked, and specialists are already working with all parties involved to resolve the issue.
limo is a free and open gateway that allows you to run Ethereum Name Service (ENS) websites in regular browsers. It converts ENS addresses into standard HTTPS links—so you can open decentralized sites without needing to run your own IPFS node.
The attacker gained control of the account at the domain registrar. This enabled them to redirect all limo traffic—thereby putting users at risk of being sent to phishing pages or infected with malicious software.
Виталик Бутерин published a direct link to his IPFS blog as a safe alternative and asked users to use limo only after the team’s official announcement of full service restoration.
