An Iranian warship was recently sunk by a U.S. submarine in waters near Sri Lanka, drawing attention from the public. According to reports, India’s Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar said on the 7th that, out of humanitarian considerations, India has allowed an Iranian warship to dock at the country’s port. Earlier, an Indian government source told the outlet that on March 4—the same day that Iran’s “Dena” naval frigate was attacked by a U.S. submarine—India, at Iran’s urgent request, permitted another Iranian warship, the “Lavan,” to dock at India’s southern port of Kochi. On the 7th, Jaishankar said at a forum, “I believe we indeed acted from a humanitarian perspective, not from a legal standpoint. I think we did the right thing.” (Global Times)
