Iraq Border Guard commander Mohammed Saker issued a statement saying that Iraq’s borders with all neighboring countries are “safe and reliable, under strict security control,” denying any infiltration or cross-border activities currently taking place in the country’s border areas. The statement noted that recent developments show it is crucial for Iraq to strengthen control of the 1,493-kilometer border line it shares with Iran. That border line runs through the Kurdish Autonomous Region (Kurdistan Region), covering the provinces of Erbil, Sulaymaniyah, and Halabja in the “Kud区” region. The Iraq Border Guard has coordinated with Kurdish security forces, such as the “Kurdish Freedom Fighters Organization,” to enhance security in these border areas. Saker reiterated that reports about Iraqi personnel infiltrating into the Iran border are untrue. The commanders of the Iraq Border Guard continue to maintain coordination and communication with the Iranian side. (CCTV News)
