So Meta finally let EU users unlink their Instagram and Facebook accounts now that the DMA kicked in. Honestly didn't think they'd actually do this, but here we are. Basically if you're in Europe, you can now keep these accounts separate and Meta won't automatically share your data between them anymore. The whole thing is wild because they're letting people use Messenger standalone, access Marketplace without needing your main Facebook profile active, all that stuff. Though they're warning it'll be clunky - reduced functionality and all. I'm guessing the experience will feel pretty different once you unlink everything. The EU really forced their hand on this one. Meta's been sending out notifications to users over there explaining the new options, so if you've got family in Europe they're probably seeing this pop up. Basically the DMA made them do it - these gatekeepers now have to let users unlink their accounts and stop mixing data across services. Curious if anyone's actually going through with it or if most people just ignore the notifications lol. What's your take - would you unlink if you could?
