Just came across this fascinating 2023 data on cities millennials are moving to, and the patterns are wild. Over 5.4 million millennials relocated to major U.S. cities in a single year – nearly a fifth crossed state lines for a fresh start. Alexandria, Virginia and Cambridge, Massachusetts topped the list with new millennial residents making up over 12% of their populations. But here's what caught me: New York City absolutely dominated in raw numbers with 362k move-ins, more than double LA's 187k. Meanwhile, Seattle's got the highest concentration of millennials overall at 42% of residents. The cities millennials are choosing reveal interesting economic patterns too. Tech hubs like Sunnyvale and Santa Clara rank high, but interestingly, many California cities are actually losing appeal to younger professionals. Austin, Denver, and Portland are clearly winning the relocation game right now. If you're thinking about where millennials are moving to for work or lifestyle reasons, the data shows it's less about staying put and more about chasing opportunity in specific metros.
