BTC 15-minute increase of 0.69%: Order book liquidity continues to decline, amplifying the driving force of active buying
On April 17, 2026, from 14:30 to 14:45 (UTC), the spot market for BTC recorded a return of +0.69% within 15 minutes, with prices fluctuating between 77,455.4 and 78,044.4 USDT, a volatility of 0.76%. In an environment of tightening liquidity, short-term price movements attracted market attention.
The main driver of this fluctuation was the long-term below-average depth of the market order book—since Q4 2025, it has remained below $130 million, indicating significantly insufficient market liquidity. As a result, although there was no large buy order inflow during this period, medium-sized active buy orders could significantly push prices higher. Additionally, net outflows from BTC exchanges continued, with major funds preferring to transfer holdings to cold wallets, limiting selling pressure and further increasing the price’s sensitivity to regular buy orders.
Meanwhile, on-chain data shows that the number of active addresses (about 4,000 in 10 minutes) and transfer volume (approximately 1.26 million BTC in 10 minutes) remain normal, with no signs of extreme user behavior or panic large fund inflows and outflows. No concentrated transfer signals from whales (addresses holding over 1,000 BTC) were observed, ruling out sudden whale manipulation. Derivatives markets and spot ETF trading volumes remain low, with no signs of leverage chain reactions or large-scale liquidations. Multiple factors resonated, with order book liquidity deficiency amplifying short-term price volatility.
The lack of market liquidity means that even without large buy or sell orders, BTC prices could remain highly sensitive to routine capital movements, increasing volatility risk. Static funds continuing to exit could trigger price retracements if market sentiment reverses or large cold wallet transfers concentrate back into active circulation. Continuous monitoring of key indicators such as order book depth, exchange net inflows/outflows, and whale activity on-chain is essential to stay alert to short-term risks.
