So I just gave my dog a couple orange slices and started wondering if I was actually doing something good or just being random. Turns out oranges are totally fine for dogs—packed with vitamin C, fiber, and potassium which they apparently need just like we do.
But here's the thing: moderation is key. One to three slices max, and it should only be like 10% of their daily food intake. Too much and they'll get an upset stomach or worse. Also gotta peel it first and get rid of the seeds because the peel has some nasty stuff in it that can mess with their digestion.
I was also curious about canned mandarin oranges since those are easier to grab, but honestly? Skip those. They're loaded with added sugar and syrup, which isn't great for dogs, especially if they've got diabetes. Fresh orange is the way to go if you're gonna do it.
Turns out most dog foods already have all the nutrients they need anyway, so oranges are really just a fun treat, not something you need to make a habit of. My pup seemed to like it though, so might throw one in occasionally.
