just found out some of the bills sitting in your wallet right now could actually be worth way more than face value lol. like apparently small face bills are worth something if you know what to look for. been down a rabbit hole about rare $2, $50 and $100 notes still in circulation and it's kind of wild.
so the main thing is condition and serial numbers matter a ton. red seals, star notes (those have a star at the end of the serial number), unique markings - collectors go crazy for these. i'm talking $2 bills from the 1920s-50s can fetch hundreds even if they're circulated. some star notes from 1995 go for like $500 uncirculated. for $50s, the older series are obviously more valuable, especially if they have brown seals or special markings. and $100 bills? there are 1966 red seal notes worth $135-169 and some 2009 series bills with unique serials going for over $1k.
the wild part is you could legitimately have one of these just chilling in your wallet or a drawer somewhere. the older the bill and the better the condition, the higher the value. obviously not every bill is a goldmine but it's worth checking if any of your cash has these specific features. probably should get them checked by an expert if you think you have something rare though - don't just assume.
anyway if you're into this kind of stuff or just want to check your cash before spending it, might be worth looking into. could be sitting on actual money without knowing it
