First Financial Bankshares, Inc. is a financial holding company based in Texas, registered under the revised Bank Holding Company Act of 1956. Therefore, it is supervised by the Federal Reserve Board and other banking regulators. The company was established in 1956 as a bank holding company, originally named F & M Operating Company, but its banking operations date back to 1890. At that time, Farmers and Merchants National Bank opened in Abilene, Texas. As of December 30, 2012, the company owned 11 banks, one trust company, one technology operations company, and one insurance agency. All entities operate in Texas. On December 30, 2012, the company consolidated its eleven bank licenses into First Financial Bank (National Association) Abilene Bank, to reduce operational costs and improve efficiency in technology and compliance operations. Additionally, on May 31, 2013, it acquired Orange Savings Bank SSB and merged Orange Savings Bank SSB into its branches.
