Just been thinking about the AI narrative and whether we're in a bubble or not. Honestly, I think there's real money to be made here if you're picking the right plays. Let me share three stocks I've been watching that could be solid long-term bets to buy now.
First up is ASML. Here's the thing - they're literally the only company on earth that can make EUV lithography machines. These machines are absolutely critical for producing the next-gen AI chips that everyone's building. Whether it's Nvidia, AMD, or Broadcom designing chips, they all need ASML's equipment. The demand for these machines isn't going away anytime soon. As chips get more advanced and require higher precision, foundries have no choice but to keep investing in ASML's technology. It's almost like a moat that won't disappear.
Then there's Nvidia. Yeah, competition is heating up - you've got custom chips from Broadcom, AMD, and even Alphabet getting in the game. But Nvidia still dominates the GPU market for data centers at scale. The beautiful part about their business model is the margins. They're converting over half their revenue into after-tax earnings with a 53% net profit margin. Even if competition chips away at their pricing power, they're still going to be an incredible business. Whether it's Oracle gaining on AWS or Claude competing with ChatGPT, Nvidia profits either way.
Third one I'd highlight is Microsoft. What I like about them is they're not just betting on one part of the AI stack. They've got Azure for cloud infrastructure, they're a major backer of OpenAI, and they're strong in enterprise software and gaming. They're basically positioned across the entire value chain - infrastructure, models, and applications. Plus they're returning cash to shareholders through dividends and buybacks, trading at a reasonable 30x forward earnings.
The real insight here is you probably shouldn't go all-in on just chipmakers or just software plays. The best stocks to buy now are ones that give you exposure across different layers of the AI value chain. That's how you hedge your bets while still capturing the upside from what looks like a generational opportunity. Having positions in industry leaders like these three gives you multiple ways to profit and helps your portfolio weather the inevitable volatility.
