According to a report by The Wall Street Journal on the 13th, as Iran continues to blockade the Strait of Hormuz, the Pentagon is deploying more Marine Corps units and warships to the Middle East. Three U.S. officials disclosed to the reporter that Defense Secretary Hegseth has approved a request from U.S. Central Command to dispatch an amphibious ready group and its attached Marine expeditionary unit. The unit typically consists of several warships and 5,000 Marines. The report also said that the U.S. amphibious assault ship “Libya” stationed in Japan and its embarked Marines are heading to the Middle East. It is unclear whether this is part of the troop reinforcements mentioned above. The officials also said that the U.S. Marine Corps had previously provided support in military actions against Iran.(Xinhua News Agency)
