So I was wondering if I could share some of my mushrooms with my dog and went down this whole rabbit hole. Turns out it's way more complicated than I thought lol. Like, store-bought ones are fine if you cook them right, but wild mushrooms? Apparently they can actually kill dogs. Wild ones are basically a no-go.
Got curious about can dogs have baby bella mushrooms specifically since those are what I usually buy. Good news - they're safe if you cook them plain with no seasoning or oil. But here's the thing - even the safe ones don't give dogs much nutritional benefit. They're just... there. Not harmful, but not super helpful either.
The interesting part is medicinal mushrooms though. Like shiitake or maitake can actually help with immune stuff and inflammation. But those come as supplements usually. If you're thinking can dogs have baby bella mushrooms as a regular treat, honestly the vet said there's not really a reason to unless your dog has specific health issues.
If your pup eats a wild mushroom by accident, apparently that's an emergency situation. Gotta call the vet immediately. The symptoms can take 15 minutes to a day to show up - vomiting, weakness, that kind of stuff. Pretty scary.
My takeaway: can dogs have baby bella mushrooms? Yeah, but only cooked and plain. Better off giving them other veggies like carrots or green beans though. Way safer and they actually get nutrients from those. Anyone else ever tried giving their dog mushrooms or nah?
