Maersk will not resume the Hormuz route for now
Maersk Shipping Company in Denmark said on the 8th that the ceasefire announcement between the United States and Iran has not yet sufficiently guaranteed safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz. The company said it is taking a cautious approach to the current situation and will temporarily not resume the routes that were suspended last month.
In a statement to Reuters, Maersk said that although a two-week ceasefire between the United States and Iran could create opportunities for navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, there remains uncertainty regarding maritime security, and the additional conditions attached to the ceasefire still need to be understood. The company said it will continue to closely monitor developments and will report the latest progress in a timely manner within the next few hours to days as the situation evolves.
“Any decisions regarding the Strait of Hormuz are based on ongoing risk assessments, close monitoring of the security situation, and guidance from relevant authorities and partners.” As one of the world’s largest container shipping groups, Maersk suspended several routes passing through the Strait of Hormuz last month. Currently, the company transports goods from Jeddah Islamic Port in Saudi Arabia, Salalah Port in Oman, Sohar Port, and Hørfak Port in the United Arab Emirates, and then ships them overland to countries in the Gulf region.
