Brazilian security researchers purchase counterfeit Ledger devices on Chinese e-commerce platforms, warning users to buy devices only from official sources
Techub News reports that, according to Cointelegraph, Brazilian security researcher “Past_Computer2901” posted on the Reddit “ledgerwallet” channel that he purchased a Ledger Nano S Plus from a Chinese e-commerce platform for personal use, at the same price as the official Ledger store. When he connected the device to the genuine Ledger Live app, the device failed the built-in “genuine verification” of Ledger. Subsequently, he disassembled the device and found modified hardware and firmware designed to capture and leak sensitive wallet data. Additionally, after the device was powered on, another manufacturer’s name, Espressif Systems, appeared. The researcher warned users to only download Ledger Live from the official website and purchase hardware from official sources.
