Lately, I keep experiencing "lags" when viewing on-chain data. At first, I thought it was just my internet connection... Then I realized that many pages are actually: the frontend asks the Subgraph/indexer for results, and the indexer still needs to request logs and states from nodes/RPC. If any part is rate-limited or queued, you'll see that spinning circle or sudden data jumps. RPC rate limiting is more common, basically meaning everyone is squeezing through the same pipe; if it can't handle the load, it just leaves you waiting.
So recently, some people have been complaining that on-chain data tools and tagging systems are "lagging" or even "misleading." I'm not too surprised: if the index hasn't caught up, or if reorganization rollbacks happen, or if tags are manually and rule-based assembled, delays and misjudgments are inevitable. Anyway, now I tend to wait two more minutes when checking data, and I switch to a different data source to verify—don't get too worked up over a single chart.
My definition of "long-term" isn't that grand either; I usually think in quarters: three months is enough for me to see if a protocol will get exposed under extreme conditions, and also enough to curb my impulsive trading habits little by little. That's all for now.
