UN Secretary-General Guterres, currently visiting Lebanon, called on October 13 for Israel and Hezbollah to cease fire, end the current conflict, and create conditions for Lebanon to restore stability.
According to a statement issued by the UN News Center, Guterres said after meeting with Lebanese President Aoun in Beirut that the ongoing conflict has brought serious suffering to Lebanon, and Lebanon has been drawn into a “war that the people do not want to experience.”
Guterres also expressed hope that during his next visit to Lebanon, he would see a peaceful Lebanon, with the state exercising “exclusive control over weapons,” and its territorial integrity fully respected.
Aoun urged Israel to stop attacks on Lebanon and achieve a ceasefire. He stated that Lebanon is ready to resolve issues through negotiations but has not yet received a response from the other side. (Xinhua News Agency)
