Recently, Codex (Pro $100) double quota until the end of May is very attractive. Seeing that there is a fast option, of course I want to activate it.
I checked the source code, and fast indeed speeds up (1.5 times), but the quota consumption becomes 2 times. However, Codex's quota is already more than enough, so using it to gain speed isn't a bad deal 😂.
Claude Code also has a fast option, with the same name but a different mechanism. It outputs 2.5 times faster, but the token cost is directly 6 times higher.
One side exchanges double quota for speed, while the other pays 6 times the price to buy speed. The same fast option results in completely different billing layouts 🐧.
