Semiconductor industry chain faces further disruption: some manufacturers announce price increases for engineering plastics

Due to ongoing conflicts between the US and Iran, crude oil prices have risen. Recently, Korea’s Kumho Petrochemical and Japan’s Mitsubishi Chemical have notified Korean semiconductor equipment companies of price increases for engineering plastics (EP). Plastics used for equipment and related components account for 10% to 20% of production costs. Depending on the product, the price increase this time ranges from 5% to 20%. It is reported that engineering plastics are derived from crude oil refining processes and have heat resistance and impact resistance, mainly used in precision processing in semiconductor manufacturing.
