On April 16, the U.S. military announced that it will expand the scope of its maritime blockade against Iran to include smuggled items such as ammunition and weapons. Ships suspected of transporting prohibited goods to Iran, regardless of their location, will be subject to the "right of visit and search" by combatant nations and may be seized. The prohibited items also include oil, refined petroleum products, iron, steel, and aluminum, according to Reuters.
