Just realized Thanksgiving is coming up and turkey prices have been wild this year - up like 25% according to some data I found. Anyway, figured I'd share where to actually get a free turkey if you know where to look.

So BJ's Wholesale Club used to run this deal where you spend $150 and get a coupon for a free Butterball turkey. Giant Eagle had something similar if you hit $350 in purchases. ShopRite was doing $400 to get your turkey or other holiday stuff. Acme also had their app thing going on where you could earn one if you spent enough.

If you're actually struggling though, Feeding America has a whole network of food banks and local pantries that straight up give out free turkeys for Thanksgiving. You'd need to check their website and find what's available in your area, but they handle that kind of thing. Just note that requests fill up fast so you'd want to reach out early.

Honest take - if you're looking for where to get a free turkey, the loyalty card route at these grocery chains is probably easiest if you already shop there. Otherwise the food pantry option is legit if you qualify. Either way beats paying full price this year.
