Just came across some interesting data on who's actually hiring the most people across America. Walmart completely dominates with 2.3 million employees worldwide, though their largest employer footprint in any single state is only around 11,700 in Arkansas where they're headquartered. Amazon's spread out even more - 1.3 million people but distributed everywhere. What's wild is how different the largest employer by state actually is depending on where you look. You'd think it'd all be retail and tech, but healthcare systems are the biggest employer in like 12 different states. Makes sense though - hospitals need massive teams running 24/7. Tourism-heavy states like Hawaii and Nevada? Their largest employer by state is basically the hotel industry. Then you've got Nike dominating Oregon with 12,600 people, and some random marine services company being the biggest in Alaska with under 2,000 employees. If you're job hunting and want stability, checking out the largest employer by state in your area could actually be worth it. These companies tend to have decent infrastructure and aren't going anywhere soon. Albertsons in Idaho is probably the most interesting case - 270,000 people working there.
