Have you ever been confused seeing 10k, 10K, 100M scattered around on social media and in cryptocurrencies? Well, I also used to get lost at first. So I decided to understand once and for all what each of these numbers means.
It starts with K. When you see 1K, it really means 1 thousand. The letter K comes from kilo. So 10K is 10 thousand, 100K is 100 thousand. Just like that. It's quite common to see this in follower counts, YouTube views, and such.
Now comes the M, which is 100M. One million has 6 zeros: 1k,000. When someone mentions 5M, they’re talking about 5 million. 10M is 10 million. This is where numbers start to get interesting, especially in cryptocurrencies when you see project market caps.
Then there's the B for billion. One billion has 9 zeros: 1B. That’s 1 billion. When you see 10B, it means 10 billion. Bitcoin has already surpassed 1 trillion dollars in market cap, so these huge numbers quickly become a reality in this market.
To be very clear: 1K is a thousand, 1k is a million, and 1B is a billion. When you're tracking cryptocurrency prices, trading volumes, market caps, these terms appear all the time. Being able to convert them in your head makes a difference when understanding whether a project has 50 million or 500 million dollars in capitalization.
If you work with social media, freelancing, or are entering the crypto world, you'll see these abbreviations everywhere. Mastering this helps a lot to make better decisions when analyzing market numbers.
