20 minutes, all 500 and 1000 denominations—doesn’t that amount to throwing a million?!

A woman threw a large amount of Hong Kong dollars from a high-rise, drawing a frenzy of people rushing to grab them. Residents say she kept tossing money for about 20 minutes—notes of 1000 and 500 denominations!
On the afternoon of April 14, in a residential community in a district of Shantou, Guangdong, someone threw a large amount of Hong Kong dollars from an upper floor, attracting nearby residents and passersby who rushed to fight over them. Currently, the police have gotten involved in the investigation. Police call on those who picked up the money to hand the Hong Kong dollars over to the police station or the property management as soon as possible.
A resident said that at around 1 p.m. on the 14th, in a high-rise unit on a street adjacent to Xinghu City community in Shantou, a resident suddenly threw a large amount of Hong Kong dollars down from the balcony, prompting residents and passersby below to scramble and grab them. “These Hong Kong dollars were drifting around in the air—some landed inside the community, some on the pedestrian sidewalk by the road, and I guess quite a few also landed on the rooftops of shopfronts. Many people are picking them up—some pick up a whole handful.”
Video footage taken by residents shows that on a residential building, a woman stands on the balcony and keeps scattering banknotes downward. After she finishes tossing, she turns back inside to take some more and keeps throwing. Down below, many passersby extend their hands to snatch the banknotes floating down from the air.
On the afternoon of the 14th, a reporter from Jimu News reached a nearby shop owner, who said he also picked up a few notes and found that they were all of 1000 Hong Kong dollars and 500 Hong Kong dollars denominations. “At first, I thought they were fake money. Only after I picked them up did I realize they were all real money.” The shop owner said the woman upstairs had been continuously throwing money for an estimated 20 minutes; after someone reported it to the police, officers arrived and managed to control the situation.
The property management staff of Hu Cheng community said that this did happen. Some residents have already handed in the Hong Kong dollars they picked up to the property management, and these Hong Kong dollars are indeed genuine bills. The staff said that the one throwing money is a resident of the community. At present, it’s still unclear what her reason for throwing money is, and also unclear how much she threw. The property management will cooperate with the police investigation and hopes that residents who pick up Hong Kong dollars can hand them in to the property management or the police station. $BNB
