The Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Nuclear Power Plant in Japan will suspend power generation due to a leakage.
According to NHK Television on the 13th, the No. 6 unit of Japan’s Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Nuclear Power Plant, which was just restarted in January this year, triggered an alarm due to generator leakage. Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) decided to suspend power generation and transmission on the same day to investigate the cause of the fault. TEPCO’s daily report issued that day showed that around 4 p.m. local time on the 12th, the generator of the No. 6 unit at Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Nuclear Power Plant experienced a minor grounding fault and triggered an alarm. Relevant departments are investigating the cause. Currently, the reactor and turbine generator of Unit 6 are still operating, with no significant fluctuations in equipment parameters or generator output power, and no radioactive substances have leaked outside. The No. 6 unit of Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Nuclear Power Plant was restarted on January 21 this year. This was the first restart of a TEPCO nuclear power plant since the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear accident triggered by the Great East Japan Earthquake on March 11, 2011. Before and after the restart, Unit 6 at Kashiwazaki-Kariwa experienced multiple faults. During the process of withdrawing the reactor control rods in the early hours of January 22, alarms sounded, and TEPCO decided to temporarily shut down the unit that day. After confirming that the alarm was triggered by the inverter, the unit was restarted again on February 9. According to NHK Television, TEPCO is currently assessing whether the new fault will affect the plan to fully commercialize the unit by March 18. ( Xinhua News Agency )
