Prioritize Diplomacy, US and Iran Consider Extending Ceasefire Period

The United States and Iran are reportedly considering extending the ceasefire for an additional two weeks until May 6, 2026. According to a Bloomberg report, this move is taken as a diplomatic effort to ease tensions before the official end of the preliminary peace agreement on April 22.
This peace effort takes place amid highly strict military surveillance in the Strait of Hormuz. The US claims that no ships have managed to break through their blockade in the past 48 hours. Additionally, it is reported that nine ships have complied with US military instructions to turn around and head back to Iranian ports or coastal areas.
As additional information, positive sentiment toward this diplomatic effort is also reflected in Polymarket data as of April 15. The chances of extending the ceasefire have surged to 87%, indicating high public confidence that negotiations remain the top priority amid intense military pressure on this vital trade route.
