Just finished exploring Skink in Starfield and honestly, this planet is wild. If you're hitting up the Cheyenne system and wondering where to go first, Skink's basically the closest thing to a resource goldmine you'll find, sitting right between Narion and Kryx. Fair warning though – it's absolutely brutal down there.

The whole planet is basically volcanic wastelands and rocky terrain, which looks cool but makes survival a nightmare. You're dealing with constant solar radiation and heat damage that'll wreck you if you're not prepared. But here's the thing – that harsh environment is exactly why the metals are so valuable. Mercury, Nickel, Fluorine, Cobalt, Silver – it's all there waiting to be mined. The question is whether you're ready for it.

I noticed something important before I started mining operations: you actually need a specific skill unlocked to build outposts on Skink. Without it, you're stuck just collecting loose resources. So if you're planning to set up camp, make sure you've leveled up the right skills first.

Now here's where it got interesting for me. I was doing the Power from Beyond quest and got sent to Skink, but the Scanner Anomaly Landing Area icon wasn't showing up on my scanner. Apparently this is a known bug some players hit. If that happens to you, just land and climb to the highest peak you can find. From up there, scan carefully and you'll spot a distortion pointing to some alien ruins. If the quest marker still won't appear, try manually selecting the objective in your quest log – that usually forces it to activate.

Once you find the temple, prepare for randomness. The temple you encounter changes each time, so you might get Temple Tau like I did, or something completely different. In my run, I got the Reactive Shield power, which is pretty solid. That unpredictability is actually what makes Starfield feel alive – you never quite know what you're walking into.

Skink isn't a place you go to settle down or build a colony. It's a destination for serious resource farming and quest grinding. The environmental hazards keep it dangerous, but that's also what makes the payoff worth it. If you're deep into Starfield and looking to optimize your resources, Skink should definitely be on your route.
