Tonight I saw news that deserves attention: Poland is actually considering developing its own nuclear capabilities. This is no small matter, especially given the current European context.
According to statements made by President Karol Nawrocki in an interview with Polsat News (also covered by Bloomberg), the Polish government is seriously evaluating how to strengthen its defensive capabilities. The reason is quite clear: threats from Russia continue to weigh on regional security, and Poland cannot afford to fall behind.
What stands out is the timing. While Eastern Europe is experiencing one of the most tense periods in recent years, the countries in the region are completely recalibrating their security strategies. Poland is no exception: the president explicitly emphasized the need to improve national defenses in response to these growing concerns.
From a geopolitical perspective, this move by Poland regarding nuclear weapons reflects a broader reality: the balance of power in Europe is changing rapidly. Countries that for decades relied mainly on NATO and American protection are now reconsidering their autonomous options.
It’s one of those moments when global arrangements are rebalancing. It’s worth keeping an eye on how this situation will develop in the coming months.
