U.S. stocks early trading mixed: Dow slightly down, Nasdaq up
On Wednesday, U.S. stocks in the early session showed diverging performance, with the three major indices moving differently. The market focused on U.S.-Iran negotiations and geopolitical developments in the Middle East. Trump said the Iran-related situation is “very close to ending,” suggesting that an agreement could be reached this week.
As of the early trading session, the Dow fell 148.02 points, down 0.30%, to 48387.97 points; the Nasdaq rose 121.781 points, up 0.52%, to 23760.865 points; and the S&P 500 index rose 9.53 points, up 0.14%, to 6976.91 points.
With expectations for geopolitical tensions easing, tech stocks led the Nasdaq higher, while traditional blue chips dragged the Dow lower; the outlook still requires waiting for the outcome of the U.S.-Iran negotiations.
