The Supreme People's Court releases four typical cases of strict punishment for crimes of trafficking women and children according to law

Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, April 2 — (Reporter Feng Jiashun) The Supreme People’s Court released four typical cases of lawfully punishing crimes of trafficking women and children on April 2, demonstrating the people’s courts’ firm resolve to strictly punish trafficking crimes and effectively safeguard the legal rights and interests of women and children.

In the case of “Wang Mouwen and others trafficking children,” Wang Mouwen has been involved in trafficking 14 children through theft methods in Hunan, Hubei, Sichuan, and other places over more than ten years since 2001, causing many families to be separated, bonds broken, and families shattered, resulting in serious physical and mental harm and huge property losses for families who lost their children. The people’s court sentenced Wang Mouwen to death in accordance with the law, demonstrating a firm attitude of zero tolerance toward trafficking crimes and effectively deterring potential offenders.

In the case of “Qiu Moujiang and others trafficking women,” from 2018 to March 2021, Qiu Moujiang introduced marriage under false pretenses, buying or deceiving women with mental illnesses or intellectual disabilities from guardians through others, initially bringing them to his residence for control, then selling them at high prices to others as wives. Qiu Moujiang trafficked six women, illegally profiting a total of 190,000 yuan, and raped two of the women. The people’s court sentenced Qiu Moujiang to life imprisonment for trafficking women, deprived him of political rights for life, and confiscated all his personal property.

In the case of “Li Mouhui and others trafficking children,” Li Mouhui and his wife Zhang Mourong, despite having multiple children, used childbirth as a means of illegal profit, disregarding whether the children could be raised, and after giving birth, sold the children to others. They sold five of their own children, illegally profiting a total of 470,000 yuan. The court’s final judgment found that Li Mouhui and Zhang Mourong sold their own children for illegal profit, constituting the crime of trafficking children. Li Mouhui was sentenced to eleven years and six months in prison, and Zhang Mourong to five years.

In the case of “Chen Mouya trafficking children,” from May 2022 to April 2023, Chen Mouya obtained information about children being sent for adoption through the internet, fabricated lies such as her inability to give birth and willingness to adopt, and deceived three infants from adoptive parents to sell them, illegally profiting over 130,000 yuan. The court held that Chen Mouya’s behavior constituted the crime of trafficking children, but considering her timely response to police notifications, truthful confession of major criminal facts, provided information about the whereabouts of the abducted infants, and assisted the police in arresting other accomplices, she was given a lenient punishment. Accordingly, Chen Mouya was sentenced to seven years in prison and fined 100,000 yuan. (End)
