The UK will host an international conference to discuss restoring navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.

UK Prime Minister Sunak stated on April 1st that the UK Foreign Secretary, Cooper, will host an international conference this week regarding the Strait of Hormuz to discuss plans to restore navigation through the strait. Sunak said at a press conference that the UK is exploring “all available diplomatic channels” to promote the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. He said the best way to address rising living costs is to de-escalate the situation and ensure the Strait of Hormuz reopens. Sunak said the UK’s economic situation will depend on the duration of the conflict and when the Strait of Hormuz reopens. The UK government is closely monitoring the situation, having previously introduced measures including setting a cap on energy bills and extending fuel tax relief to reduce living costs.
