CoinWorld News reports that an American official stated that the U.S. Navy is currently not escorting any ships through the Strait of Hormuz, but has communicated to merchant ships (those not entering or leaving Iranian ports) that the passage is safe and encourages transit. The official said that the United States has not imposed a total blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, only blocking ships entering or leaving Iranian ports along the entire Iranian coastline. The official also said that last weekend, the U.S. dispatched a destroyer through the Strait of Hormuz to demonstrate that the waterway remains safely navigable.
