European diesel futures benchmark prices hit their highest level since 2022, impacted by the Iran war disrupting the fuel supply that powers the global economy.

The futures price in the London market once rose to $1,493.25 per ton, equivalent to over $200 per barrel, with intraday gains reaching as much as 9.4%.

European diesel production is usually lower than consumption. Several traders and analysts said that if the Strait of Hormuz cannot be reopened, Europe will face diesel shortages in the coming weeks, and Latin America is also expected to experience similar pressure.
