According to reports by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) and “Russia Today” (RT), Ebrahim Azizi, Chairman of Iran’s Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, said in a post on April 1 that the Strait of Hormuz will definitely reopen, but it will not be opened to the United States. With the U.S.-Israel-Iran conflict continuing for more than a month, shipping through the Strait of Hormuz—so crucial as the “choke point” for global shipping—has been severely disrupted, triggering a chain reaction such as a sharp surge in global shipping costs and adjustments to supply chain layouts. The Strait of Hormuz plays an important role in the global supply, delivery, and transportation of oil and liquefied natural gas. International Energy Agency Director Fatih Birol previously said on March 16 that current supply losses have already exceeded those during the 1973 oil crisis. Restoring normal shipping through the Strait of Hormuz is essential to stabilizing the oil market. (Global Times)
