The United States Plans to Block the Strait of Hormuz—“Economic Warfare” Intended to Spark Controversy
The Trump administration’s blockade decision is essentially a dual approach of “economic war” and “military war.” Analysts believe that the core purpose of blocking the Strait of Hormuz is to cut off the key oil revenue of the Iranian government and military operations, thereby weakening Iran’s long-term combat capability.
But this move is facing widespread questioning. Some U.S. lawmakers said: “I don’t understand how blocking the Strait of Hormuz would force Iranians to open the Strait.” On the military front, the U.S. military has not yet disclosed specific implementation details, including the number of warships and whether fighter jets will be used. Expert analysis suggests that, considering environmental risks, the U.S. military is unlikely to directly fire missiles at oil tankers; it is more likely to adopt measures such as threatening to drive them away or conducting armed boarding to force control.
Iranian Islamic Consultative Assembly Speaker Kalibaf posted a photo of gas station price charts across the United States on social media, with the caption: “Enjoy today’s fuel prices. Under the so-called ‘blockade,’ you’ll soon miss gasoline at $4–5 per gallon.” International public opinion is generally concerned that the blockade could lead to the escalation of the Strait of Hormuz crisis, further pushing up international oil prices, and may even trigger direct confrontation between China and the United States.
On the 13th, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said that the Strait of Hormuz is an important international corridor for cargo and energy trade. Maintaining security, stability, and smooth passage in the region aligns with the common interests of the international community. The way to resolve the issue is to stop the fighting and end the war as soon as possible. #Gate广场四月发帖挑战
