I just reviewed the Mexican Army salary table for 2026, and honestly, I was quite surprised. It turns out that soldiers earn pretty well compared to many civilian professions. A basic soldier makes around 18,000 pesos a month, but the interesting part is seeing how the salary increases as you climb the ranks.
What caught my attention the most is how much a military captain earns. A First Captain reaches nearly 43,000 pesos per month, and a Second Captain is around 39,000. Not including all the extra benefits they receive, such as food allowances, transportation, and vacation bonuses. That means the actual income is much higher than the base salary.
But if you want to see really high figures, you need to look at the higher ranks. A Colonel already exceeds 91,000 pesos monthly, and Generals easily reach a million pesos annually. A Division General earns more than 133,000 pesos per month, so yes, there are definitely military personnel earning very well.
The interesting part is that to reach these positions, you need to study at the Military Educational System; it’s not a quick path. But if we consider everything included in the compensation package—from a 40-day Christmas bonus to a 40% technical allowance—the military career can be quite financially attractive. Definitely, how much a military captain or higher ranks earn is something worth considering if you're looking for financial stability.
