Just realized a lot of people still don't know how to properly change their SRD banking details online - it's actually way easier than the permanent grant process, but you need to follow the steps carefully.
So if you're on the SRD R370 grant and need to change your bank account, here's what I figured out: go to the official SASSA SRD portal and look for the banking section. You'll need your 13-digit ID number, then SASSA sends you a secure link via SMS to the phone number you registered with. Click the link, enter your new account details, and submit. That's it - just make sure the account is actually in your name, not someone else's.
The tricky part is the verification takes a few days to weeks, so don't expect the change to happen overnight. And heads up - if you want to use the cash send option instead, your phone number has to be RICA-registered in your name.
Now, if you're on a permanent grant like old age or disability and need to change srd banking details or any payment method, it's completely different. You have to go in person to a SASSA office, fill out their Payment Method Change Form, bring your original ID and a recent bank statement (less than 3 months old), and let them verify everything. Takes up to 21 working days after that, and you need to submit before the 15th of the month if you want it to take effect next month.
One more thing - there are fake websites out there pretending to be SASSA. Always use the official portal, never trust random links. If the online process doesn't work, just call the helpline at 0800 60 10 11 or visit your local SASSA office. Honestly, going in person is sometimes safer anyway if you're not sure what you're doing.
