Israeli media reported on the 7th that, as the deadline set by U.S. President Trump for Iran is nearing, there has been some progress in contacts between the U.S. and Iran. All parties are working to push for a temporary ceasefire and are exploring the possibility of gradually reopening the Strait of Hormuz. The Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation, citing diplomatic sources, reported that Pakistan has put forward a proposal to postpone the deadline by two weeks. Consultations are ongoing under tense circumstances, and related contacts have shown “positive progress,” but no final agreement has been reached yet.
According to the website of Israel’s “New Message” newspaper, the relevant contacts are moving toward reaching a temporary ceasefire, during which the Strait of Hormuz may gradually reopen. The report, citing regional intelligence officials, said the parties are closer to a ceasefire than the outside world expects and are trying to reach some arrangement before the deadline. Israel’s Channel 12 television, citing military sources, said the direction of the current situation remains unclear and it could “move toward fighting or reach an agreement.” Israel is preparing for various scenarios, including a ceasefire, a framework agreement, and the expansion of military actions. The report also said Israeli officials will describe the coming hours as a “critical moment” and are concerned that the U.S. and Iran may reach some form of deadline extension or a framework agreement at the last minute, believing that the relevant arrangements may not fully satisfy Israel’s stated interests and demands.
As the deadline approaches, the Israeli military issued a statement on the evening of the 7th warning that attacks against Israel could escalate in the coming hours. It called on the public to remain vigilant and follow civil defense instructions. (Xinhua News Agency)
