On March 18th local time, a knowledgeable source stated that the U.S. Navy’s Gerald R. Ford aircraft carrier, after experiencing a “laundry room fire,” will return to the Mediterranean for repairs and resupply. The source revealed that this largest and most advanced U.S. Navy aircraft carrier will dock at a naval base located on Crete in Greece or another port in Europe. The Ford carrier is currently in the Red Sea, and its withdrawal means that the U.S. Central Command will have only one aircraft carrier, the Lincoln, remaining to support military operations against Iran. According to military officials, the “laundry room fire” that occurred last week rendered over 100 berths on the Ford unusable, and about 200 sailors underwent medical examinations after inhaling smoke.
