๐คจ Someone shorted oil at $950m before Donald Trump announced the ceasefire!
Just hours before the US-Iran ceasefire announcement, unusually large trades took place in the market โ 8,600 Brent and WTI futures contracts worth approximately $950 million.
Immediately after, Donald Trump announced a two-week ceasefire โ the market reacted instantly. Oil prices (Brent and WTI) plummeted by about 15% and dropped below $100 per barrel.
Interestingly, such large trades are usually broken into smaller parts and spread out over time to avoid moving the market. But here, everything happened in one block โ which is extremely rare.
In March, a similar bet on $580m was made just 15 minutes before another Trump statement โ at that time, oil collapsed by about 15%.
