I just realized there's a pretty interesting trend developing in DeFi — what is RWA and why is it so hot? Turns out, it's not a new concept but a bridge between traditional finance and blockchain.
RWA (Real-World Assets) basically involves bringing real assets like real estate, bonds, stocks, and commodities onto the blockchain. When tokenized, these assets become easier to trade, costs are reduced, and users can access them easily through DeFi platforms. The cool part is that blockchain ensures transparency and security, eliminating complicated intermediaries like before.
I've been following some notable RWA projects. MakerDAO (MKR) is currently priced at 1.79K and is expanding the use of RWA as collateral for DAI. Centrifuge (CFG), priced at $0.18 and up 1.36% in 24h, is a protocol that allows tokenization of invoices, real estate, and loans. Their way of connecting businesses with DeFi funding sources is quite clever.
Goldfinch (GFI) is at $0.12, functioning as a decentralized lending bridge between emerging markets and DeFi investors. Maple Finance (MPL) focuses on institutional lending with RWA as collateral. TrueFi is also integrating RWA into their unsecured loans.
There are other projects worth watching. Ondo Finance offers managed RWA products, making it easier to access bonds and stocks. Paxos Gold (PAXG) is at $4.71k and allows you to own real gold via blockchain. Synthetix (SNX) has decreased 4.49% to $0.29 but remains a protocol for creating synthetic assets, including RWA. Aave (AAVE) is at $91.91 and is also integrating RWA into their lending platform.
What’s truly exciting about RWA is that it opens up a new world of investment — you can trade traditional assets on the blockchain without going through conventional financial intermediaries. But like everything in crypto, you need to understand the projects well, be aware of legal risks, and know how to manage your portfolio.
