I just realized recently that finding a temporary phone number isn't that complicated. Previously, I went through a lot of trouble to register for certain overseas websites and test SMS interfaces. Later, I discovered the existence of phone verification platforms, which saved me a lot of hassle.

Basically, these platforms provide virtual numbers to receive SMS verification codes without actually purchasing a SIM card. I've used several verification platforms myself, and the experience varies quite a bit. SMS-Activate and 5SIM are the most stable overall—they usually deliver codes within 10 seconds and cover many countries. If you're mainly using them domestically, Super Cloud SMS and XiaoNiao Verification respond faster, typically within 5 to 20 seconds. Getsmscode is cheaper but can be slow sometimes, making it suitable for non-urgent scenarios.

When using these phone verification platforms, there are a few pitfalls to avoid: shared numbers are more likely to be flagged, and less popular apps might not receive SMS. My advice is to load multiple numbers at once so you can switch quickly if one becomes invalid. It would be even better if the platform supported one-click number switching. Also, don’t expect to use a virtual number long-term—privacy and security are really not guaranteed.

Honestly, for temporary needs like API testing and small account registrations, phone verification platforms are a pretty good choice—they protect your privacy and are convenient. Just remember to choose reputable platforms and avoid cheap options that might lead to trouble.
