I just realized recently that using SMS verification code platforms can really save a lot of trouble. Previously, to test SMS verification code APIs, I considered buying a new SIM card, but then I found out it's actually unnecessary—virtual number platforms can handle it all.
Basically, SMS verification code platforms are services that rent virtual phone numbers to receive verification codes. I've encountered quite a few pitfalls before—some platforms simply don't receive messages, others have delays of half a day, and it took a long time to find a few truly stable ones. Platforms like SMS-Activate and 5SIM usually deliver codes within 10 seconds, cover many countries, and are especially suitable for cross-border application testing.
For domestic use, Super Cloud SMS and Little Bird Verification also offer good experiences. US numbers typically receive messages in 10 to 30 seconds, while Chinese numbers are even faster—usually within 5 to 20 seconds. However, during peak times, there might be some delays, but switching to a different number range usually solves the problem. Getsmscode is a bit less popular but offers cheap prices, making it suitable for light use.
When using SMS verification platforms, there are a few pitfalls to avoid. First, some numbers are shared, which can lead to registration issues; second, verification codes may have delays, especially for less common countries or apps; also, don’t choose platforms just because they’re cheap—reliability and activity level matter a lot. Most importantly, this is only for temporary use—don’t rely on these as your main number long-term, as privacy and security are not guaranteed.
My advice is, if you're just testing APIs, any platform that supports API access will do. But if you need stable registration for a specific overseas website, it’s best to top up multiple numbers so you can switch quickly if one becomes invalid. Some platforms even support one-click number switching, which is very practical and helps avoid waste. Overall, choosing the right SMS verification platform can make many verification processes much easier.
