Middle East Situation | Trump: If negotiations don't go smoothly, we can easily resume military action against Iran
The U.S. earlier agreed to pause its bombing and attack operations against Iran for two weeks. U.S. President Trump said in an interview with the UK Sky News network that if negotiations between the United States and Iran do not go smoothly, the U.S. would be able to easily resume military operations against Iran.
He added that the two-week ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran is “very good,” and that all military targets in Iran have already been achieved. “We have already done everything we wanted to do militarily, and the United States has achieved a complete military victory.”
When asked about the fact that the 10 ceasefire terms proposed by Iran cannot be accepted by the U.S., Trump pointed out, “You don’t know what those specific terms are. I know. Many of those terms are very good, and most of them have already been completed in the negotiations.”
Separately, U.S. Vice President Vance (JD Vance) said that developments in Iran are going well. The United States has achieved its military objectives in Iran, and Iran has agreed to open the Strait of Hormuz.
Vance said that Trump had asked him to work to reach a good-faith agreement; if Iran lies or cheats, it will face serious consequences. He emphasized that the United States has enormous economic leverage over Iran, and that Trump is urgently hoping to make progress with Iran.
Iranian President: The ceasefire is the result of the joint efforts of the Iranian people
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said he accepted Pakistan’s proposal for talks to be held later this week, confirming that Iran will participate in the talks. He wrote on social media that the ceasefire with the United States was reached on the basis of Iran’s basic principles, which were made possible by the sacrifice of Iran’s former top leader Khamenei, and which is the result of the joint efforts of all Iranian people.
Pezeshkian wrote, “From today onward, we will continue to remain united as one, whether in the diplomatic arena or in the defense arena… Unity is victory.”
