On March 31, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning presided over a regular press conference. A reporter asked that, according to reports, U.S. and Israeli military actions recently attacked the Arak heavy water plant, the Khondab heavy water reactor, the Aldakan yellow cake processing facility, the Bushehr nuclear power plant, and others, and that the U.S. military is conducting drills for the use of force to seize and transfer Iran’s stockpile of enriched uranium. In addition, Iran has submitted to the upcoming 11th Review Conference of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons working documents on the prohibition of attacks on peaceful nuclear facilities and scientists, emphasizing that armed attacks on nuclear facilities violate multiple international legal instruments. What comments does China have on this? Mao Ning said that armed attacks on peaceful nuclear facilities subject to International Atomic Energy Agency safeguards violate the purposes of the UN Charter, international law, and the IAEA’s statute, seriously undermine the authority of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, and weaken efforts to maintain the international nuclear non-proliferation regime, potentially bringing serious consequences to regional peace, security, and stability. China firmly opposes this, advocates a peaceful resolution of Iran’s nuclear issue through political and diplomatic means, calls on all parties to stay calm and exercise restraint, and to avoid further escalation of tensions.
