The U.S. and Iran have reached a preliminary consensus on a ceasefire and the framework for a nuclear issue, and are scheduled to hold formal talks in Islamabad, Pakistan’s capital, on the 10th.

According to CGTN News, on the 8th the Iranian Supreme National Security Council issued a statement announcing that the United States has, in principle, committed to no longer conducting military action against Iran, accepting Iran’s uranium enrichment activities, lifting comprehensive sanctions, and paying compensation for losses, and congratulated all Iranian people on its “victory.”

Meanwhile, in an interview with Sky News, Trump said that many of the contents in Iran’s ten-point proposal are “very good,” and that most of them have been “fully negotiated,” but he also warned that if the final plan is not ideal enough, “we can easily go back to our original position.”

According to Xinhua News Agency, Iranian media reported on the 8th that Kalibaf, the chairman of the Iranian Islamic Consultative Assembly, will lead an Iranian delegation to hold talks with the United States in Islamabad, Pakistan, and that the U.S. side will participate with a delegation led by Vice President Vance.

On the 8th, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz said on social media that he has invited representatives from both the U.S. and Iranian delegations to hold further talks in Islamabad on the 10th, in order to reach a final agreement to resolve all disputes.

Iran discloses details of the “U.S. commitment”

In its statement, the Iranian Supreme National Security Council listed eight obligations that it claims the United States has, in principle, committed to fulfill, including:

  • Guaranteeing that it will not carry out any further military action;

  • Acknowledging Iran’s continued right to control the Strait of Hormuz;

  • Accepting Iran’s uranium enrichment activities;

  • Lifting all sanctions at Levels 1 and 2 against Iran;

  • Terminating all relevant resolutions of the UN Security Council and the International Atomic Energy Agency’s board;

  • Paying compensation for losses caused to Iran;

  • Withdrawal of U.S. combat forces from the region;

  • Ceasing all military action on all fronts.

The statement also emphasized that, before the above “victory” details are finalized, it is crucial for officials’ decision-making capabilities and the public’s unity and cooperation, and it said that over the past 40 days Iran and Lebanon, Iraq, and Yemen fought side by side, “delivering a heavy blow to the enemy,” and that “other than surrendering to Iran, the enemy has no way out.”

It is worth noting that the above statements currently come only from Iran unilaterally, and the U.S. has not yet publicly confirmed the specific commitment contents.

According to CGTN News, on April 8 local time, Ali Nikzad, deputy speaker of the Iranian Islamic Parliament, said that if the U.S. does not accept Iran’s proposed 10 ceasefire clauses, Iran’s supreme leader will not approve signing the ceasefire agreement.

Nikzad also said that the Strait of Hormuz will not be restored to its original state. Earlier, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz confirmed that Iran and the United States and their respective allies agreed to implement an immediate ceasefire at all locations, including Lebanon and other areas, effective from today. He invited both the U.S. and Iran delegations to hold further talks in Islamabad on the 10th, in order to reach a final agreement to resolve all disputes.

On April 8 local time, Iran’s supreme leader’s military adviser, Mohsen Rezaei, also said that the United States has no choice but to accept Iran’s ten-point proposal as the basis for negotiations, but the hand of the armed forces is still on the trigger until it is completely certain that national interests are fully secured.

The core content of Iran’s ten-point plan for the U.S.

On April 8, Iran rejected all plans proposed by the enemy and formulated a ten-point plan to be submitted to the U.S. via Pakistan. The main points include:

  • Coordinating with Iran’s armed forces to control passage through the Strait of Hormuz;
  • Ending the war against all members of the “Axis of Resistance” and putting an end to the aggression of the Israeli regime;
  • Having U.S. combat forces withdraw from all bases and deployment points in the region;
  • Establishing a security transit protocol in the Strait of Hormuz to ensure Iran has a leading position;
  • Fully compensating Iran for its losses based on assessment results;
  • Lifting all Level 1 and Level 2 sanctions and relevant resolutions of the UN Security Council;
  • Releasing all Iranian assets and properties that have been frozen overseas;
  • Accepting Iran’s uranium enrichment activities;
  • Terminating relevant resolutions of the UN Security Council and terminating relevant resolutions of the International Atomic Energy Agency’s board;
  • Stopping all front-line fighting, including in Lebanon.

The statement emphasized that all agreements reached through the negotiations will become binding international law and bring an important diplomatic victory for Iran’s nation.
