During the Qingming Holiday, many places have implemented spring break and combined it with the Qingming Holiday to create consecutive days off. Consumer demand has been released strongly, and this has also injected momentum into the spring consumer market.

According to data from the Ministry of Commerce, during the Qingming Holiday, among key retail and catering enterprises nationwide, daily average sales increased by 2.4% year over year. For the 78 pedestrian streets (commercial districts) that the Ministry of Commerce monitors closely, foot traffic and sales revenue increased by 6.0% and 6.7%, respectively.

In terms of goods consumption, as of April 5, 2026’s auto trade-in and replacement program has received a total of 1.53M subsidy applications, driving new car sales revenue of 246.8 billion yuan. For home appliances’ trade-in and replacement, as well as sales of digital and smart “buy new” products, sales reached 62.85M units, driving sales revenue of 215.97 billion yuan. Sales revenue for smart glasses and smart watches/bracelets on key platforms increased by 3.2 times and 12.3%, respectively.

In terms of services consumption, during the Qingming Holiday, the Ministry of Commerce’s closely monitored catering enterprises saw sales revenue increase by 3.9% year over year. On key platforms, hotel accommodation consumption increased by 2.6% year over year; the number of cross-city trips increased by 15.1% year over year; themed park consumption increased by 11.7% year over year; parent-child study tours orders doubled year over year; and car rental order volume increased by approximately 40% year over year.
