According to news from the U.S. side on August 18 local time, although U.S. President Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu have maintained close communication regarding the war against Iran, the two countries may differ on the war’s “endgame objectives” and their respective levels of risk tolerance. It is understood that officials within the Trump administration believe the United States is more inclined to end major operations after achieving core military objectives, including weakening Iran’s missile forces, nuclear program, naval capabilities, and its proxy network; whereas Israel is more focused on pushing for regime change through methods such as high-level assassinations. A White House official said, “Israel’s focus is different, and we are clear about that,” adding that Israel “is more inclined to target Iran’s leadership.” On energy issues, the two sides have also run into differences. The U.S. places greater emphasis on stabilizing global oil prices, while Israel previously attacked Iran’s oil storage facilities, drawing U.S. dissatisfaction. The White House has asked Israel that any future related actions must be approved in advance. (CCTV News)
