According to a report by The Paper, Cinda Securities Co., Ltd. (referred to as “Cinda Securities,” 601059) responded to an incident involving the company’s Research Institute director allegedly harassing a subordinate.

On March 25, in response to online reports that the director of Cinda Securities’ Research Institute and energy chief analyst Zuo Qianming was reported to the police by a subordinate for allegedly harassing him, a relevant person in charge at Cinda Securities told reporters: “We have noted the situation being circulated online. At present, we have suspended all of Zuo Qianming’s work and initiated an internal review, and we will actively cooperate with the relevant work of public security authorities.”

Public information shows that Zuo Qianming has a doctorate and graduated from China University of Mining and Technology (Beijing). He previously served as the deputy director of the Industry Consulting Division of the China Coal Industry Association (in charge of the work), and has been engaged in research and consulting in coal and energy-related fields for more than ten years. He joined Cinda Securities in 2016. Since 2019, he has been responsible for research on the large energy segment, leading the team to win numerous awards in the research field. In July 2025, Zuo Qianming was appointed as the director of Cinda Securities’ Research Institute.

According to information on the website of the C&EA (Securities Association of China), Zuo Qianming’s practice registration institution is registered as Cinda Securities, with the registration category being general securities business. On July 30, 2018, Zuo Qianming’s registration category at Cinda Securities was changed to securities investment consulting (analyst). As of the time of writing, Zuo Qianming’s registration status at Cinda Securities still shows as normal.

The official website states that Cinda Securities was established in September 2007, as the first securities company in mainland China under the AMC model. The headquarters is in Beijing. It is a securities firm approved by the China Securities Regulatory Commission, with China Cinda Asset Management Co., Ltd. (now known as China Cinda Asset Management Co., Ltd. Limited) as the primary sponsor, and jointly with China Haizhong Trust Investment Co., Ltd. (now known as China Haizhong Trust Co., Ltd.) and China National Materials Industry Kegong Group Co., Ltd. (now known as Sinomaterial Group Co., Ltd.). It was formed on the basis of inheriting Cinda Asset Management Co., Ltd.’s investment banking business and securities-type asset foundations from the acquisition of Liaoning Securities Company and Hantang Securities Co., Ltd.

Cinda Securities has established more than 100 branches across multiple provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities nationwide. It has five subsidiaries in mainland China and Hong Kong. On February 1, 2023, the company was listed for trading on the Shanghai Stock Exchange.

In terms of performance, in the first three quarters of 2025, Cinda Securities’ operating revenue was 3.019 billion yuan, up 28.46% year over year; net profit attributable to shareholders of listed companies was 1.354 billion yuan, up 52.89% year over year.

As of before the reporter’s time of writing, Cinda Securities’ latest share price was 16.68 yuan per share, up 1.09%.

Previously, according to a report by Xinhuanghe, the complainant identified herself as Tang Chanyu. She joined the Research Institute of Cinda Securities in 2023 and is currently a researcher. In her letter, she detailed her experience on the night of March 24: Zuo Qianming asked her to accompany him to Shanghai on the pretext of attending a business trip meeting. After a dinner gathering that night ended, when he returned her to the car going back to her accommodation hotel, he touched her, first by saying “You look very nervous—relax,” and then by摸ing her hand, before later moving to her private parts. Tang Chanyu pushed him away twice; he repeated “Relax” twice and reached out again.

When they arrived at the hotel, Zuo Qianming, in front of multiple people, pulled her along and demanded that she “go back to my room.” After she refused, he forcibly grabbed her waist and shoved her into the back seat of a taxi parked outside the hotel. In the car, Tang Chanyu struggled desperately and shouted for help. Zuo Qianming tried to calm her by saying “Just one injection and it’ll be fine,” and that remark made her even more terrified.

The turning point in the situation came at the entrance of the Holiday Inn—at a crucial moment, a security guard intervened and controlled Zuo Qianming from behind. Tang Chanyu then seized the opportunity to break free, ran into a nearby crowded hot pot restaurant, and asked the staff to help her hide in a safe place. After that, she reported the incident to the police, and learned from the police that Zuo Qianming had been controlled with the assistance of security staff.

At the end of her complaint letter, Tang Chanyu wrote that she had completed a detailed transcript at the public security bureau. The hotel security guard and the hot pot restaurant staff could both serve as third-party witnesses. The monitoring footage in relevant public areas was also being processed. “I am responsible for every word of the above statements, and I do not accept any form of internal private settlement.”

What was circulated alongside the complaint letter was a receipt titled 《Case (Incident) Acceptance and Reporting Acknowledgment of Receipt》 issued by the Weifang Xincun Police Station of the Pudong Branch of the Shanghai Municipal Public Security Bureau. The case number shows it was in 2026. The receipt states: the complainant, Tang Chanyu, reported the incident at 1:07:41 a.m. on March 25, 2026. She said that on the way by car to the Holiday Inn at 899 Dongfang Road in the Pudong New Area, she was sexually harassed by Zuo Qianming. After arriving at the hotel, he continued pulling and tried to take her back to his room. When she was in the parking lot at the hotel entrance, she was shoved into a taxi; she struggled and shouted for help. After that, she left with the assistance of the Holiday Inn’s security and reported it to the police. When the police arrived, they took Zuo Qianming away for investigation. The names of persons involved, locations, and the reasons recorded in the receipt closely match those in the complaint letter.

In her letter, Tang Chanyu also mentioned that before the incident, she had always believed Zuo Qianming was “a respected and upright good leader who cared about his subordinates,” and that is also why this incident struck her so hard. She admitted that she was a young employee who joined Cinda Securities in 2023 upon graduation. She chose to speak publicly in order to protect her rights and interests, and also to prevent the same thing from happening to others again.
