Iran Situation | Pakistani Prime Minister proposes a two-week pause in US-Iran tensions
As tensions between Iran and the United States have escalated, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif early on Wednesday (the 8th) posted on social media saying that he asked U.S. President Trump to postpone the “final ultimatum” against Iran by two steps, while also asking Iran to open the Strait of Hormuz for two weeks as a show of goodwill.
The deadline for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz that Trump set is due to expire at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday (U.S. Eastern Time) (8:00 a.m. on Wednesday in Hong Kong time). Earlier, he posted on social media, threatening Iran, saying, “Tonight, the whole civilization will perish, never to return.”
Pakistan has recently served as a mediator between the U.S. and Iran, helping to pass messages.
