Hainan Free Trade Port Hong Kong Promotion Conference Focuses on Win-Win Cooperation between Qiong and Hong Kong
On the occasion of the full launch of Hainan Free Trade Port’s island-wide customs closure operations, three months into operation, the “Two Ports Linked, Cooperation and Win-Win” Hainan Free Trade Port—Hong Kong Media Symposium and Promotion Event, hosted by the Hainan Provincial Information Office, was held in Hong Kong on the 18th. The event focused on the latest progress in building the Hainan Free Trade Port and discussed the prospects for deepening cooperation between Hainan and Hong Kong in multiple fields and jointly pursuing development.
Wang Bin, a member of the Standing Committee of the Hainan Provincial Party Committee and Minister of Publicity, attended the event and delivered a speech. He said that Hainan is earnestly implementing the arrangements of the National Two Sessions, focusing on five key areas: economic and trade investment, financial services, orderly and secure flow of data, cultural and tourism consumption, and talent and professional services. Hainan is accelerating the construction of the Hainan–Hong Kong Economic Cooperation Demonstration Zone, expanding the outcomes of one-way recognition of Hong Kong professional qualifications, and promoting the deep integration of industry, supply, and value chains. He called for jointly creating a new opening landscape characterized by “linking two ports and sailing together to go global.”
Wen Zhuofei, Vice Chairman of the Hong Kong Journalists Association, said that Hainan and Hong Kong have enormous potential for cooperation in fields such as culture, tourism, media, medical and wellness care, and higher education. He suggested that the two sides strengthen exchanges and achieve complementary strengths. In the medical and wellness care sector, Hainan’s environment is excellent and costs are relatively lower, allowing it to complement Hong Kong’s advanced medical resources and provide Hong Kong’s senior residents with more choices for elder care.
Lou Bing, Deputy General Manager of Ta Kung Wen Hui Media Group, said that Hong Kong–Hainan cooperation can deepen its layout across areas such as industrial collaboration, financial services, tourism and wellness care, and youth exchanges. By leveraging Hainan’s “zero tariffs” and value-added processing policies, the parties can build a cross-border industrial chain of “Hong Kong taking orders, Hainan producing, and global sales,” and promote the industrialization in Hainan of Hong Kong’s scientific research achievements.
At the meeting, representatives from multiple Hong Kong media outlets made positive remarks regarding the future prospects and outlook for Hainan–Hong Kong cooperation, and actively raised questions about topics of concern to Hong Kong from all sectors. Relevant officials from the Hainan Provincial Leading Group Office for Deepening Reform (the FTZ Working Committee Office) and the provincial Department of Finance introduced Hainan’s measures on issues including the impact of customs closure operations, tax system reform, and industrial complementarity between Hainan and Hong Kong.
